BEIJING, Jan. 30 Kyodo

Chinese health and agricultural authorities on Friday reported suspected avian influenza cases in Guangdong and Anhui provinces as well as the port city of Shanghai, the official Xinhua News Agency reported.

Laboratory tests also confirmed that previously suspected cases in Hubei and Hunan provinces are bird flu.

Xinhua said the new suspected cases had been ''brought under control.'' The report did not specify what control measures were taken, but rules call for the slaughter of poultry within 3 kilometers of the sick bird discovery.

This action will impact local farmers but should not affect the national economy, said a Western diplomat who follows science and healthcare issues.

No cases of human infection have been reported in China.
